The Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association could not accomplish its work without the aid of various committees. The following is a list of committees and their responsibilities.

Bench Bar

Plans and executes programming for the Bench Bar Conference each April.


Continuing Legal Education

Plans and executes the many CLE seminars offered throughout the year by the Association. Develops topics, identifies instructors and coordinates seminar details.


Courts of Justice

Works with issues of relevance to litigants, lawyers and the judiciary in local and state courts.


Membership

Assists with Association membership recruitment and retention.


Military Law and Lawyers

Works with issues relevant to active duty military lawyers and lawyers who represent servicemembers.


Norfolk Law Library Board (Norfolk residents only)

Responsible for oversight of Norfolk Law Library.


Professionalism

Makes recommendations to the Executive Committee for selection of the Eggleston/I’Anson Professionalism Award. Available to address professionalism issues as they arise.


Program

Assists the Association President with speakers and programs for luncheon and breakfast meetings of the Association. Contacts speakers, makes invitations and corresponds with speakers before and after the event.


Public Relations

Plans and executes projects designed to enhance the image of the profession in the community and provide public services, which include the Legal Food Frenzy to benefit the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia; recommends recipient for Hoffman Community Service Award to the Executive Committee.


Young Lawyers Section

Open to NPBA members who are under the age of 37 or who have been in practice less than five years.
